Making Existing Floors Anti-Slip

Anti-Slip Mechanical Grooving

Mechanical Grooving

Straight line or patterened grooving provides texture for slip problems.

Grooves can be used to provide an attractive, yet highly functional profile.

Dustless Shot-Blasting

The surface of the floor is blasted into a profile with highly specialised equipment. This process opens up the floor surface to contamination and care must be taken where it is used.

Resin and Scatter

Following immaculate sub-floor preparation, clear or coloured resins can be applied to the floor, and a profile material such as bauxite or carborundum scattered onto their surface. The bigger the grit size of the profile material, the higher the slip resistance, but the harder the cleaning!

Vinyl

Anti-Slip Vinyl tile

To increase friction on the floor surface it is necessary to apply a profile. There are many materials to choose from and the eventual selection will be based on the use to which the floor will be put. Ease of cleaning is reduced as profile is increased, so the cleaning regime should be considered in tandem with the selection of the flooring material.

There are several Vinyl sheet and tile manufacturers which utilise carborundum particles to provide this texture. These floor finished are generally utilised in pedestrian or light industrial applications.

Resin

Anti Slip Resin Floors

Resin floors can be laid with a natural anti-slip finish. This texture can be varied during the laying process, from micro-fine to a mountainous profile. Chemical resistance and point-load resistance, two of the main benefits of resins, making them more suitable than Vinyl in heavy duty environments. Resins are ideal as a base for shower rooms since they are bonded directly to the floor, and can be successfully formed into a cove.

Tiled Floors

Generally, some tile producers apply the profile during manufacture. These are usually used around swimming pools, leisure centres or wet environments including shower rooms.
