Project Details

Installation of Screed
Although Terrazzo was preferred, time constraints meant that a grind-free system was needed (only 6 days from design to completion). Coloured resins were set onto a 50mm weatherproof ply

Routing Timber
Two concentric circles were routed out to receive pre-formed brass circles. These rings protruded and provided levels for all the other brass including the letters, the star, and the brass divider strips for the resin colour separation.

Laser Cutting Brass
Lasers were used to set the letters and brass strip in exactly the right position.

Fixing Brass in Place
The timber was routed for all the divider strips, and all the brass was fastened in place with resin, in anticipation of installing the coloured resin.

Installing Black Resin
The black resin was the first to be installed. Generally, only one or two resins per day can be installed to allow it to cure and not therefore blend with the adjacent coloured liquid resins.
31 Hour Installation Shift
Time constraints forced us to lay all colours in a single 31 hour shift in order to complete some 10 hours before the official opening.

Brian May Unveiling Ceremony
The unveiling ceremony as carried out by Queen guitarist Brian May, and Freddie Mercury's mother.
Normally, dry, heated and roomy environments are needed for these installations. There should be at least two metres of room all the way around the perimeter. See this video and marvel at how we achieved the results we did!!
